The Wason Selection Task is an experimental procedure that demonstrates the power of narratives to improve performance on logical tasks. My Ph.D. dissertation is a three-stage test of the various theories that attempt to explain this effect. The title, Rhyme or Reason, encapsulates two of the competing philosophies: that the improvement is due to logical ability or mere familiarity.

Student Confidence

Tracking students' levels confidence in their mastery of course material can help teachers hone their testing and teaching strategies. Providing student with feedback on the discrepancy between their confidence and their performance can help them become better at knowing what they do not know. Socrates would be proud.
